Around the World in Eighty Days: Back in London

'One minute more, and the wager would be won. Andrew Stuart and his partners suspended their game. They left their cards, and counted the seconds. At the fortieth second, nothing. At the fiftieth, still nothing. At the fifty-fifth, a loud cry was heard in the street, followed by applause, hurrahs, and some fierce growls. The players rose from their seats. At the fifty-seventh second the door of the saloon opened; and the pendulum had not beat the sixtieth second when Phileas Fogg appeared, followed by an excited crowd who had forced their way through the club doors, and in his calm voice, said, ‘Here I am, gentlemen!’ Phileas Fogg finally returned to London, and he was just on time to win his bet. This is where our journey ends, and we'd like to finish it with these beautiful images of London by Depositphotos contributors. Stay tuned! High Five! Digest of the Most Burning Topics of the Year

Hello there! It is the 10th and final issue of High Five! for this year, and today we are summing up the most burning microstock-related topics with the help of Depositphotos’ contributor Anna Furman.

5 tendencies of microstock photography

1) Competition among professional stockers is growing even stronger. 2) It is getting much more difficult for newcomers to get into the top tier of microstocks and start earning. 3) Glamorous or unnatural pictures are falling out of fashion; what clients need is sincerity, real emotions, and everything natural. 4) Customers prefer photographs of interesting and charismatic models, who are not necessarily beautiful. 5) Fresh ideas and a sense of humor really matter. Around the World in Eighty Days: Chicago

'The train passed rapidly across the State of Iowa, by Council Bluffs, Des Moines, and Iowa City. During the night it crossed the Mississippi at Davenport, and by Rock Island entered Illinois. The next day, which was the 10th, at four o'clock in the evening, it reached Chicago, already risen from its ruins, and more proudly seated than ever on the borders of its beautiful Lake Michigan'. Enjoy some views of this wonderful city!

Around the World in Eighty Days: Salt Lake City

'Mr. Fogg and his party had time to pay a visit to Salt Lake City, connected with Ogden by a branch road; and they spent two hours in this strikingly American town, built on the pattern of other cities of the Union, like a checker-board, "with the sombre sadness of right-angles," as Victor Hugo expresses it.' Take a look at SLC and other landmarks in the state of Utah!

Around the World in Eighty Days: San Francisco

“On the 3rd of December, the General Grant entered the bay of the Golden Gate, and reached San Francisco. Mr. Fogg had neither gained nor lost a single day. San Francisco was no longer the legendary city of 1849 – a city of banditti, assassins, and incendiaries, who had flocked hither in crowds in pursuit of plunder; a paradise of outlaws, where they gambled with gold-dust, a revolver in one hand and a bowie-knife in the other: it was now a great commercial emporium.” Just as it is at the moment. High Five! 5 horror themes to try before you die

Since the end of the world is (supposedly) approaching, High Five! has some tips that will help you enjoy the days left until the Big Bada Boom! Depositphotos’ contributor Ryan Jorgensen, a known connoisseur of horror, gives his advice on what to shoot before it all ends – and how. Beware: some spooky and bloody content inside! 1. Zombies. The perfect horror subject, zombies can best be described as “vacant, with a hint of sadness, like a drunk who’s lost a bet,” and this shoot is best done drunken. Think skewed angles, think bad lighting, think broken props; but most of all, don’t think too much. Zombie Killing Some Time | Stock Photo © Depositphotos | Ryan Jorgensen

Around the World in Eighty Days: Yokohama

Welcome to Yokohama, the next stop on our way around the world with Phileas Fogg. The second-most populous city in Japan was only the sixth in the days of Phileas. Today it attracts tourists with its historic port area, shopping centers, international restaurants, parks and futuristic architecture.

Besides Yokohama, let’s take a look at other remarkable places in Japan.

High Five! 5 tips: How to take pictures of animals

High Five! is happy to introduce Depositphotos’ bronze contributor FotoJagodka, who has kindly agreed to share five tips on how to take pictures of animals:

Working with animals is both exciting and complicated. In order to get a proper shot, one has to be patient, try to get acquainted with the particular animal, and help it get used to the shooting environment.

This process is similar to working with kids. Animals never sit still; it is always hard to make them pose for a photo you’ve planned, and that is why you have to come up with some tricks. So, how do you get the results you need from an animal? 1. Make sure you have the animal’s favorite toy or treat. White chihuahua dog lying with sunflower | Stock Photo © Depositphotos | FotoJagodka

Around the World in Eighty Days: Hong Kong

Phileas Fogg found that Hong Kong resembled Britain: “Docks, hospitals, wharves, a Gothic cathedral, a government house, macadamised streets, give to Hong Kong the appearance of a town in Kent or Surrey transferred by some strange magic to the antipodes.” What we see there today is a completely new world and a strange mixture of culture. Take a look: you are welcome to form your own opinion! PS: And a little surprise for our readers: enjoy Hong Kong in motion. Traffic in Hong Kong at night | Stock Photo © Depositphotos | Iakov
