AI & Creativity: How Fuckup Nights Limassol Use Generative Tools to Craft Memorable Experiences

In an age where innovation thrives at the intersection of creativity and technology, Depositphotos is launching a series of interviews and case studies; they are set to inspire content creators to rethink the possibilities of stock photography and AI-powered tools.

Today’s spotlight is on Fuckup Nights Limassol, a global movement and event series that aims to destigmatize failure, encourage authentic and vulnerable conversations, and create a community of bold and open-minded people in Cyprus.

We had a chat with Alla Reveko, the Fuckup Nights Limassol co-organizer, who shared her vision for the event series and experience on working with the Depositphotos AI Image Generator to create standout designs for their merchandise.

Everyone fails, don’t they?

Our story with bringing this event series to Limassol, Cyprus, started in February 2024. One of our co-organizers was invited to speak at Fuckup Nights Almaty, Kazakhstan, and had a chance to experience the concept inside-out. Being inspired and motivated by the global mission to speak openly about failures in business, we decided to acquire a license and join the trend.

Originally, Fuckup Nights started in Mexico and grew into a global movement and event series in just a decade. They happen in 260+ cities around the world and attract thousands of attendees every year. With Cyprus having rather closed and traditional business circles, we realized it would be great to challenge the local community. So far, we’ve hosted two events in May and September, with 130 and 230 attendees respectively, and have plans of upscaling in the coming months.

No risk, no FuN

Another thing that we felt really inspired about is the Fuckup Nights manifesto. It’s worth separate attention, as every phrase is catchy and meaningful for those dreaming of making a difference with their projects.

The main idea behind the manifesto is to embrace failure as a part of the journey, staying bold and playful in your everyday efforts.

FuN is also an acronym for Fuckup Nights, which means that if you don’t take risks, you have no failures, nothing to learn from, and nothing to share at the events. Insightful, isn’t it?

Here are some phrases that our team loves the most:

  1. Have a setback
  2. Perfection is rhetorical
  3. Keep it simple
  4. If you take yourself too seriously, don’t
  5. Be vulnerable
  6. Do one thing a day that scares you
  7. Be bold and live to the fullest

With these ideas in mind, we’re not only encouraging the local community to stop being afraid of making and sharing failures, but also doing so ourselves.

Don’t take failures too seriously. They’re part of the journey

When you’re organizing events for the first time with a small team of just two people, you’re learning so much along the way and dealing with dozens of unexpected challenges. For instance, we have a funny story about our first event.

Fuckup Nights Limassol Vol. 1 _ Cinema Bar

We started planning our May edition in early March 2024. We found a beautiful open-air location in the heart of Limassol with a huge screen showing 3D projections at night. It seemed like a perfect match, since we wouldn’t have to hire a production team to set everything up from scratch, and our audience would be able enjoy the presentations while sipping cocktails and eating some food. So we booked it for May 21, 6 pm and started the search for speakers.

Two months later, it was time to meet with the venue team to test the screen. But…it didn’t work. We also didn’t consider the fact that a) summer was approaching and for the projector to work, it needed to be dark outside; b) it remains bright outside until 8:30 pm because of the time change in Cyprus.

As the promotion of the event had been running for a few months and people were expecting to come at 6 pm, we had no choice but to find another solution on how to screen the presentations in this venue. So we brought some TVs, set them up in front of the screen, and started our event with the following words:

“Dear audience, the first Fuckup Nights event in Limassol starts with a huge fuckup”.

In the end, it’s all about not taking mistakes too seriously.

We also have success stories! Using AI Image Generator to create sticker packs

Every Fuckup Nights event is not just a safe space for sharing failure stories but a unique experience for our audience. We pay special attention to having a creative photo zone and gifting every person with thematic merchandise. They include sweet treats with ‘Eat me every time you fuckup’ labels, tokens for free drinks, branded pencils, sticker packs with memes or popular quotes, and other goodies.

We wanted to explore new ideas and styles that generative tools can offer: something you don’t find anywhere else, neither on Pinterest or a stock library.

For our second edition, we decided to level up the stickerpacks by using the Depositphotos AI Image Generator. Firstly, we wanted to save time and money on creating designs from scratch. Secondly, it was important for us to explore new ideas and styles that generative tools can offer: something you don’t find anywhere else, neither on Pinterest or a stock library.

Start generating

The process was quick and simple. We brainstormed the general concept and ideas for prompts, and started experimenting. Especially helpful were the unlimited generations that Depositphotos has with every plan, since we wanted to find an aesthetic that would match our event. Eventually, we chose the ‘cartoon style’ and ‘hand drawn’ direction, added some quotes and cutouts through an editing tool, and printed these stickerpacks for 230 people.

More FuN merch is coming! And it’s going to be AI generated

Another direction we’re thinking of developing as a part of Fuckup Nights Limassol is selling thematic merchandise, from sticker packs and notebooks to T-shirts and home decor. As Depositphotos clients, we plan to use some mockups from the stock library to promote the goods. When it comes to printing items with creative design, we’d like to stick with the AI Generator tool since it helps find unique visual concepts and saves a lot of time for our creative team.

Using AI Image Generator is a great opportunity to do that and showcase that we’re on the same page with our audience of mostly business owners, C-level managers, or senior specialists in international IT companies with offices in Cyprus.

Another important point for us is that in addition to being unique and high-quality, all visuals we create with the AI Image Generator are commercially safe and come under a Standard license. What this means is that we can sell merchandise with these designs and distribute it to large audiences.

Last but not least, our Fuckup Nights team wants to stay up to date with the latest technology since we’re hosting events in Limassol, the Cyprus tech hub. Using AI Image Generator is a great opportunity to do that and showcase that we’re on the same page with our audience of mostly business owners, C-level managers, or senior specialists in international IT companies with offices in Cyprus.
