Five tips to help you create trendy stock illustrations for Valentine’s Day – 2013

Keeping your earnings high means not only producing high-quality images, but creating stock files which are up-to-date. We are in 2013 now, so it would seem rather old-fashioned to draw an ordinary red heart or a couple of Cupids. We’d like to help you create popular illustrations by reviewing the latest trends of Valentine’s Day graphics. Luckily, we have two secret weapons in our hands: our current search trends and the statistics from 2012 that we can compare.

Out-of-the-box design

Try to use the most popular English words in a totally new way (e.g., make them look like a message from a kidnapper).  And it works! You can also experiment with the lovely creatures you choose to put in your design; instead of making images with traditional cats, puppies or doves, try owls.

Hand-drawn retro stuff

Hand-drawn interpretations of St. Valentines Day are trending, without any doubt. Such images look especially good in sets. They can also be popular when drawn roughly.

Retro has been in the list of trends for a long time. In order to succeed, follow the recommendations of Depositphotos contributor AlisaFoityk: try to use imagery from the ’40s and ’50s instead of the ’20s and ’30s.

Simplicity can work, too

Very simple stamps may look unimpressive, but they are able to sell well; sometimes doing even better than more sophisticated designs . This works also for speech bubbles and labels, etc.

Hearts constructed of small details

Of course, hearts remain the most in-demand element of Valentine’s Day. To make your heart unusual, try to construct it from different or unexpected tiny elements.

Our “secret” search words

Last but not least: we’d like to share some trending search words. This is what our customers need at the moment, and the number of these images currently available at Depositphotos isn’t very high: Valentine cupcakes, Valentine dog, and Valentine party.

Good luck!
