Photo Collection: Neon Signs and Colors
Neon was named one of the major graphic design trends of 2019, and is perhaps one of the most exciting elements to experiment with for creative projects. Neon as a color is contemporary and bold, although interestingly, its history can be traced back to the 17th century when it was accidentally discovered by a French astronomer Jean Picard.
In this photo collection, we want to be a little nostalgic and recall some facts on how neon signs became an integral part of our lives.

A brief history of neon signs and colors
The rare chemical element – neon – was discovered by William Ramsey and M. W. Travers in 1898 in London.
Meanwhile, the use of it as we know today was coined by Georges Claude. In 1902, he created the first neon lamp, which was displayed to the public only eight years later.
The inventor patented the lamp and established Claude Neon Lights, Inc. At this time, his friend suggested using these lamps for advertising signs.
A new invention was tested in 1912 on the façade of a small barbershop in Montmartre.
In the 1920s, advertising gained momentum not only in Europe but also all over the world, and neon signs appeared to be helpful as never before.
Today, neon signs and colors are back on trend. Striking and flashing colors are big this year, according to the graphic design trends of 2019.
